Story
I started pottery via adult education evening classes in Rochester and from day one I was hooked. I soon had my own kiln and wheel. It had been a hobby off and on for a number of years until I retired when it has become a passion. The smoke firing, raku and agate ware I create, for me, represent the elements and the universe. The inspiration for my ‘Linear’ collection comes from the simple lines of the architectural buildings of the 1930’s. I am also a wood turner and I try to incorporate that with my pottery where appropriate.
My preferred clay for throwing is porcelain, not easy to use, but I love the purity and texture of it. In general I prefer not to fully glaze my pots as I feel that being unglazed enhances the fragility of the piece and allows one to get closer to the feel of the clay.
